Sherman’s Flatbush Funeral Home has a rich heritage and history. We have always been family-owned and independently operated. Sherman’s has been operating for over a century, making it one of the oldest funeral homes in NYC. Having said that, we have been innovating with our service offerings to better serve the Jewish community in NYC.
Our current owner, Joe Sherman is the fourth generation of the Sherman name to own and operate the funeral home. Joe’s great grandfather, William Sherman founded the funeral home in 1898, and is truly considered a pioneer for Jewish funeral directors in New York City. William passed on ownership of our NYC funeral home to his son and grandson, Joseph and Arnold. As each new generation has taken over control of the funeral home, new ideas and perspectives have been brought into the fold. However, Sherman’s mission has always remained the same – We provide personal care and concern to help mitigate the pain felt during one of life’s most difficult times.
Our Jewish heritage and faith has always been important to us. As one of the few Jewish funeral homes in NYC, we know we play a crucial role in providing the Jewish community with the funeral traditions they seek.
